Friday the 11th of November. The time: 7:30. The location: the historic surrounds of the Worthing Pavilion. The occasion: The 2016 Adur and Worthing Business Awards. And Spicer International were there! Nominated for 3 awards (Best Medium Business, Best Team & Best Customer Service), there was a palpable crackle of excitement as we filtered elegantly into the bar, shook hands with the mayor and promptly jumped the drinks queue.
After collectively knocking back some refreshments whilst drinking in the novelty of fellow workmates parading their award-baiting finery, we filtered somewhat less elegantly into the main ballroom to take our seats. Food was poured, drinks were dished up and the room was a veritable hive of anticipation.
Whatever your thoughts about such award ceremonies, there’s no denying that they provide a welcome focus for businesses. They’re a welcome opportunity to catch up with clients, bump into old faces and they afford a rare chance for your team to enjoy a much-deserved night out together. Above all, it’s always nice to be recognised for the hard work you put into something. And award ceremonies, much like that well-earned fireside whisky at Christmas, allow you to reflect on the year’s achievements.
And what a year it’s been here at Spicer International. Profits are healthy, customer numbers have increased and we’ve created 6 more positions. So it feels very much that we’re in a period of expansion, much like our waistlines were after the third course was served.
Suitably fed and lubricated, it was then onto the matter of the awards. Was it to be the year that Spicer International picked up another prize to add its burgeoning cabinet of prize booty? Well… it was! We didn’t manage to walk away with the main prize but we did bag the Highly Commended award for Best Medium Business. This time last year, it was a category we weren’t even large enough to be eligible for! So that’s a noticeable and satisfying progression from our Best Small Business gong from 2013.
