Stressed?

Stressed?

Keep calm? Keep calm? Shipping and logistics can be a stressful arena to work in. Deadlines, delays, damages – the 3 “D’s” anyone in our industry dread. But why is it so stressful and what can we do about it?

Pressure

Finding your customers and then manufacturing or sourcing your products is one thing. Getting your customers what they’ve purchased intact and on time can be another. They say that the last mile can be the hardest and the impact of this final stage can dictate the future relationship with your client.

Management, planning and education

Sounds a bit corny right? But with the right management and planning we are all able to execute our service so much more efficiently. If you are educated in what is required, what is expected and what your responsibilities are you will feel more in control of what you are doing.

Let the freight forwarder handle it

Carriers, hauliers, airlines, shipping companies and couriers will expect you, the shipper to be converse in importing, exporting and UK distribution. This could include legalised documentation, NES, EORI and Customs formalities let alone ISPM15 restrictions, weight and size limits and the new legislation regarding SOLAS to name but a few.

Do what you do best and outsource the rest. A freight forwarder can act as your shipping department. They have the expertise, the experience and the know-how. If your freight forwarder isn’t offering you free advice, saving you money and offering you shipping alternatives then maybe it’s time for a change.

I ship from UK to Australia and have found the level of service I receive from Spicer International to be beyond compare, but almost as remarkable is that they are able to do this at extremely competitive rates! Who said you can’t have it both ways?
